Installation No. 1 for Pure Data and Gem uses the bonk object to trigger colored graphics. The bonks or sounds the more colored lines appear and the larger they get. The lines are created using the particle objects. The installation is designed to be in a large space where it can soak up the ambient sounds and translate them into these colored lines. Drancing is Dr Darren Kelly's real-time gestural synthesis accelerometer music system (under development since 1996). A rapid prototype of "DranceWare" in the PureData/GEM audio/video synthesis environment has been developed for the Nintendo Wii as wireless triaxial accelerometer via Bluetooth.
This movie demonstrates combined Variable Fequency Oscillator (VFO), Amplitude Modulation (AM), and triggered Drum sample ("Drumming by Dancing") modes along with Drancel RGB monitor visuals projected onto the "Drancer" performer.
For this demonstration two hand-held WiiMotes on a MacBook Pro were used (the original Drancing sensor suit and Java DranceWare used 5 triaxial accelerometers in a "body star" pattern").
I'm just about to start my research for New Media module in DIT Dubiln. My assignment is to create an interactive audiovisual installation using Pure Data. In this blog I'm going to upload an interesting examples which I hope to find.
